DAB Seizes Ramadhan for Proactiveness and Readiness Workshop

COTABATO CITY – The Development Academy of the Bangsamoro (DAB) through Center of Education and Extension in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) supported by The Government of Canada . Successfully conducted the two-day workshop on () held on April 07-08, 2024 at Em Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Cotabato City.

EWER refers to a proactive measure taken to anticipate, detect, and respond to potential risks or threats before they escalate into full-blown conflict, disasters or crises.

involves the timely identification of warning signs or indicators that signal the likelihood of the hazard or emergency event. This may include monitoring weather patterns, disease outbreaks, or other potential triggers.

on the other hand, involves the swift and coordinated action taken in response to early warnings to mitigate the impact of the pending disaster, conflict or crises. This may include activating emergency response plans, mobilizing resources, disseminating critical information to the public, and implementing preventive measures to protect lives and properties.

This significant activity was held in preparation for the upcoming plebiscite in the of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on April 13, 2024.

The said workshop was attended by forty-five (45) EWER Volunteers coming from the – (-), a comprised of community-based women mediators from Moro and Indigenous Peoples communities in BARMM, who are committed to work towards strengthening the role of women in building peaceful and resilient communities in the region.

The workshop aims to enlighten the participants on the importance of early warning and early response platform in case of a conflict to enhance the preparedness, reduce vulnerability, and increase resilience in the face of emergencies, ultimately saving lives and minimizing the damage caused by disaster or conflict.

During the two-day workshop, Judith De Guzman ,one of the Project Manager of UNDP Philippines opened the program before the esteemed resource persons delivered the relevant topics on;

Generally, the said workshop was successfully done and participants were grateful to the Development Academy of the Bangsamoro together with the UNDP and The Government of Canada for equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to mitigate risks and protect the communities.

In conclusion, the EWER Workshop served as a crucial platform for enhancing proactiveness, preparedness and coordination in times of crises.
