GAD Training-Orientation Empowers Women and Promotes Gender Equality

Cotabato City, August 11, 2023 – A training-orientation entitled Orientation on the Magna Carta of Women with Women’s Rights in Islam recently wrapped up in Glan Sarangani, focusing on empowering women and advancing gender equality. Held from August 8-10,2023 at the Kamari Resort and Hotel, the seminar aimed to shed light on the rights of women in Islam and their broader role in society.

Meanwhile, notable speakers, including Ms. Norhaina B. Ugokan, shared insights on the importance of gender equality within the cultural context during her opening remarks. Mr. Sahood I. Esmael, GAD FPS member delivered the rationale of the said activity.

Throughout the training-orientation, various engaging discussions took place. Sessions covered topics like family dynamics within Islam, the rights of women, and understanding gender perspectives. The training-orientation also tackled issues like discrimination and violence against women, highlighting legal protections in place. Among the invited resource speakers are Muslim Religious Leaders including Uz Abdulsalam Alabat, Uza Anisa Taha and Uza Jihan Batiting. Bangsamoro Women Commission in the person of Ms. ROhaniya M. Sumail, LPT, GAD Specialist III and Bai Febraidah S. Karon, MPA, Sh.C., GAD Specialist II were also among the invited RPs in the training-orientation.

Attendees from the Development Academy of the Bangsamoro also explored ways to empower women economically and politically. Inspirational stories and video presentations were shared, emphasizing the importance of women’s active participation in different aspects of society.

The seminar concluded on August 11, 2023. As shared by Ms. Fairodz P. Taalim, GAD Focal Person during her closing message, the training-orientation left them with a deeper understanding of women’s rights and their significant role in creating a more equal society. This will be carried with them – a renewed commitment to promoting gender equality in their office and at home, said Taalim.
